Being Polite



Japan has many manners because it is important for Japanese to observe the proprieties. For example, a meal.
  1. When you start a meal, you must say ''Itadakimasu"
  2. When you finish a meal, you must say "Gotsisousamadeshita"
  3. Only use chopsticks.
  4. Be careful position to sit.
  5. Must have dishes when you carry a food in your mouth. 
  6. When there is food in your mouth, don't open your mouth.
  7. Don't go washroom when we eating.
  8. Don't put elbows on table.
  9. Don't pick a food with chopsticks. 
  10. Don't have chopsticks in a mouth.  etc...
There are one of many manners. I think that you have to carefull your position to sit. It is important fot Japanese to think about position to sit is very important. Do you know "Kamiza" and "Shimoza"? It's mean the top seat and the lower seat. In Japan,   If you and a superior are meal together, you must sit lower seat. If you sit top seat, sometime a superior is angry. However, It is the story only for the reception of the company and an important meal. We usually don't think it but if you want do good manner, you have to think about your position  sit.

  1. Hi, Kana.I think it is good customs to say "Itadakimasu" and "Gochisousama" before and after meal. My host family is Italian. They also say something before meal, but they don't say anything after meal. Thd difference customs are interesting , aren't you?
